It is funny how reflection shows you hidden precursors in your life. Backpacking with a heavy pack made me look with envy at the kayakers paddling easily with 100lbs of gear and decadent food stuff. One generous kayaker let me paddle her boat. Ten minutes out, and 40 minutes back, rid me of my romantic notion that this would be easy. A stiff headwind elicited prayers to Poseidon and Aquaman, to just let me put my butt back on shore. Today I kayak for exercise, sport and pleasure. Neptune is my co-pilot these days.
