OH WELL 10X8 2001

I am sitting in my spot at the coffee shop, working away, when I am approached by a young woman. She told me she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and was about to have a double mastectomy. She asked if I would make her a talisman. I immediately set to work. Her piece was much more optimistic than this one. I painted the “well” with a rainbow pallet. She left with the piece, without telling me her name and I never saw her again. I really liked the black and white, thumbnail sketch in my journal, so I painted it. You can dwell on the positive or negative aspects of the piece. I find it very zen. Paintings come from the most unknowing places. I always think of her when I see this piece and hope that she is well.
