ERASMUS 20X16 1999

Every Rotterdamian I met said I must paint their tower, the Euromast. I replied with a cringe, "there are similar towers in San Antonio, Seattle and I assume other locations." I walked all around it until I settled on a beautiful spot, by a reflection pond, in front of the Netherlands Architectural Institute. On a return trip I will paint two more views incorporating the sculpture by Auke de Vries. I am actually sitting inside a light sculpture as I am painting this. There were so many layers to this culturally rich, blue collar city that it is hard to describe. Guess I fell in love with her.
