THE WAAG 20X16 1999

The Waag, or weigh house, was originally a gate and wall for the city. It was built in 1488 (like wow!). It housed guilds, stored cheeses and famously weighed them. A large plaza surrounds it and is home to a weekly market centuries old. I liked the festival atmosphere here. It is a brilliant spot to people watch. Each of these paintings reminds me how badly my butt hurt sitting on the ground. This would be my last trip without carrying a stool. Sounds like a no brainer but remember my pack carried paint, canvas, drawing equipment, tent, sleeping bag, pad, coat, rain suit, and all the stuff everyone else travels with. I kept thinking I would ship paintings home but they were my ticket into opportunities that I would not otherwise have had.
