DRAWBRIDGE 16X20 1999

My heart may be in Texas, but my head is in the Nederlands. It was love at first site. This is a country poor in resources and rich in ideas. Every other step held a compelling composition. The pissoir freed me from the "pressures" in urban painting. In a world, and time, where I was marginalized and criminalized, I found freedom. This was my Jerusalem!

This was an easy painting. I sat at a cafe on the street with a very generous staff. I met many residents, often sharing my table. I loved the mix of old and new. The Hotel Doelen is flanked by cranes and framed by the bridge.
