ALBASIN 20X16 1999

These are not my strongest paintings from this trip but Granada was my favorite city. Picture Austin if the university encompassed the entire city. Eliminate the traffic and make all public fountains deliver noncirculating fresh ice melt from the Alpujarras. The Albasin is the old Moorish quarter of the city. Stopping for Arabic coffee, I noticed the walls were covered in Posters from Armadillo World Headquarters circa 1970. The owners son had attended U.T.  Granada was nonstop fun. The Alhambra is the most inspired architecture that I have ever witnessed. I was too awestruck to paint it. I could have spent a year here painting. That is also true for most of the Spanish cities I visited. It just wasn't in my budget for time.
