FRENCH/I THINK I CAN  8X10/@44X50  1994

The words start slowly. Beginning to find line, form, and content. They were there in the beginning as I was learning how to paint. A childhood influence from the 60's (thank you Sister Corita Kent!). Soon they will dominate. I spent my graduate years complaining about them in popular art. I didn't want to have to read a painting to appreciate it. Most of this work failed to hold my attention after the shock value passed. I wanted to create word art that made sense and gave reason to their existence. A few were successful. Many were not. With the exception of Facebook most have not been exhibited. My process does not lend itself to censorship. Just paint.
