YELLOWSTONE 24X30 1989

Driving out of the Tetons basin the road climbs in elevation as it follows the Lewis and Snake rivers. Correspondingly, your pulse and excitement grow with altitude. You have arrived at the Yellowstone. It is a sacred place, like no other place on the planet. Geysers, mud pots, canyons, waterfalls, flora and fauna populate this place. It is a pilgrimage everyone on the planet should make. Yellowstone is the largest caldera (super volcano) on earth. When she erupts it will usher in another ice age. Norris Geyser Field, depicted here, is my favorite area within this wonderland. I spend several days breathing in the sulphuric mists while painting. It is not hard to imagine this as the womb of our earth. If you want a phantasmagoric experience, go to Yellowstone.
