Mark Lincoln commissioned me to make a portrait of him and his partner, Carl Carlock. Mark was someone I considered a mentor. I was not alone. Mark was a talented, generous, eccentric and beautiful man with many proteges. He left an indelible mark on everyone he met. I was very lucky to have had him as a friend, and miss him dearly. Mark wanted his partnership represented but understated. I accomplished this by intertwining the smoke of their cigarettes. These were happy times in my life.
