PORTOFINO, ITALY  24x30  1988

We had a beautiful room in a villa overlooking the sea in this quaint fishing village that sold Gucci tee shirts for $100 on the beach. We lucked into the day of blessing the fleet. They piled the old boats sixty feet into the air and set them on fire/ I thought the village would burn down. We had our most intimate meal in Portofino. Over the course of three hours in a restaurant that seated perhaps eight we ate serving after serving of amazing food and wine. In the end they served us a special liquor on a sugar cube. Neither of us remember walking home. A week after returning to the USA, there was Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous  broadcasting from Portofino. Not bad for a staving artist.
