Nomadic Dreams @50"x36" Acrylic 1985

I had dreams of sailing a little boat somewhere, anywhere. Read a bunch of sailing magazines and books. Found my dream boat, a Montgomery 15 microcruser. I berthed and sailed her out of Clear Lake often. I was usually high and alone. Not a great idea for someone with no experience. I ventured out into the Gulf of Mexico. Every time resulted in near death experiences. It was terrifying and fun. I can't believe I came out unscathed. I realized the notion of freedom a sailboat represents was what I was attracted to. The hard work of keeping a vessel "ship shape", learning navigation and boating skills was a total buzz kill. After 18 months I sold the boat for about what I paid. If you include the paintings I sold of it, I made money on the boat.
